HEADS UP EVERYONE!
At our last Worship meeting, we
discussed the Sunday morning “crunch”. We are getting between 80
and 90 folks at the 8:30 service and we
are looking for ways to trim some time
out of that service, yet still maintain it’s
liturgical integrity.
We have an additional “station” now as
we take the Lord’s Supper so that both
sides of the nave can be communed
simultaneously. This has helped.
We also decided to try something that
many other parishes are doing, that is,
not passing around offering plates but
leaving our offering in a stationary plate
in the chancel when coming up for
communion. In other words, instead of
actually having ushers distribute plates
and collecting the offering, people will
simply bring their offering with them to
communion and put it in an offering
plate set there for that purpose.
This will save valuable time and
hopefully help us to end the service so
that we can make our way out, so that
the 10 o'clock service can start on time.
It will definitely feel “funny” the first
several times we do it, and you will feel a
bit strange when it happens. As always
with a change like this, try and withhold
judgment until you have given yourself a
chance to become accustomed to the
change.
Taking up an offering is simply a
mechanical task. It has to be
accomplished somehow. Actually,
putting your own envelope in before the
altar of God makes beautiful liturgical
sense too. If you have children, let them
put the offering in the plate. They will
feel important and will be able to
participate more fully in the service.
We will start this on Sunday, June 8 and
I will explain it this weekend at both
services.
As always, thank you for you willingness.
It is deeply appreciated.
In Christ,
Pastor John
