Hey 4th-6th graders! Would you like to spend a few Fridays away from Mom and Dad (Mom and Dad, would you like some evening downtime from your 4th-6th grader)? Now you can have both! "Friday Night Faith" is a ministry specifically geared toward 4th-6th graders. This ministry will be a time for games, movies, fellowship, discussion, and Bible study. We also plan to have regularly scheduled activities like bowling, camping, etc. With God, the possibilities are endless! With you, the fun and learning are endless!
We take Bible study very seriously at Holy Communion. The word "Bible" comes from the same Latin word as "bibliography" and simply means a collection of books. At Holy Communion we primarily study the New Testament, but recently spent several months investigating the history and interpretation of Genesis, the Bible's first book. We used several "approaches" to understanding what the scriptures say and mean, and use a variety of critical methods including literary form and historical criticism techniques. This may sound fancy, but it really is only common sense (or reason) applied to an ancient, sacred text. We discuss history alot because knowing when a Biblical book was written and what was going on in Israel and the Roman world can help us understand what the Bible is saying to its first readers and then we can jump to modern time, or our times. There are no "dumb" questions and people are encouraged to bring their own personal experiences to the study and interpretations. No Bible experience necessary! Of you would like to know more, call Pastor John at (443) 299-6134.
Friday nights: for most, it marks the end of a busy work (and school) week. You are tired, and yet something about the promise of the weekend renews you! Grab your favorite board game or a deck of cards, maybe even a football or baseball and join us on May 11 (a Friday night!) from 6P-9P. The possibilities are endless: Bridge party? Flag football anyone? Scrabble? This is an event for all ages, so be sure to share fun games for our youngest friends, too!
And, who wants to cook dinner on Fridays anyway? We got you covered! Dinner is at 6PM. Come and go as you please, during this event, but remember: we are Lutherans, so the food goes fast!

TGIF! (Well, we are a church, so why not thank God for Fridays together???).

We have an active and dynamic ministry for Seniors ages 55 and older. We do all kinds of things, including visits to local historical sites like the Bascilica in Baltimore and the Jewish Museum. We also go to plays and shows at the Dutch Apple in Lancaster and the Meyerhoff. We have fed the homeless folks at Beans and Bread in Canton and repackaged Fair Trade craft items at the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor. We also have crab feasts, picnics and sample all kinds of cuisines at local restaurants. We try to strike a balance between learning new things, serving, and having fun. Who said that growing older means slowing down? For a calendar of items, see the church calendar.
ServeFest is a day when churches partner together to serve their communities.
(time depends on which project you choose!)
Hundreds of churches providing thousands of volunteers from the Baltimore area will team up to participate in a one-day, hands-on serving event taking place on Saturday, April 28th in various location across the State aiming to show kindness to others and build the community with the hope of increasing levels of community involvement. ServeFest includes various types of projects in a variety of locations including public schools, clean-up projects, park clean-up projects, home and facility repairs, volunteering at facilities assisting disabled individuals and seniors, serving non-profit organizations, taking part in care giving opportunities and participating in prayer teams.

There will be both skilled and unskilled volunteer opportunities available that day. Projects are by a volunteer project manager in conjunction with the organization or people being served. Registration and t-shirts are required. For more information, visit http://servefestmd.org/harford-co/
